Tanner came sooner than we had expected! On Monday, July 6, 2009 I had my 38 week appointment and my doctor said, "Looks like we are going to be having a baby this week!" We were completely in shock! My due date is not for another couple weeks but I was already dilated to 3cm! So the doctor said, "Let's schedule you to come in on Wednesday just in case you don't have your baby between now and then."
We were completely excited because the date was
07-08-2009!
Prier to our appointment Steven and I had talked about how cool it would be if Tanner were to come that day, just because 7,8,9 is such a cool day to have a birthday!
This is me after work on Tuesday, July 7, 2009. That night Steven and I went to the Americana, in Glendale to this little crepe factory called the Crepe Maker. This was our last date just being the two of us.
When I as eating my lovely banana split crepe I started to feel some contractions.
My feet were so huge, and my contractions were getting stronger so our date did not last very long! But I am glad we were able to do a little something to celebrate!
We got home that night and I was able to sleep all night long, but Steven on the other hand could not sleep, he felt it was Christmas Eve! The morning of Wednesday, July 8, 2009 came and we headed out, like a baby, (no pun inteded) to the hospital at 6:15 a.m.
I was hooked up to all the monitors and my doctor came in to brake my water (highly recommended so you don't have your water break in public) and soon after started my pitocin at 7:00 a.m. While we were waiting for everything to transpire we put on one of our favorite T.V show 30 Rock, just so I can take my mind off of the pain and try to laugh it off. Soon enough 30 Rock was NOT funny anymore and it was not helping AT ALL!!! The pitocin kicked in and in 15 minutes and I wanted to scream so bad! I have known a few people that had said to relax between each contraction and to put your mind in another 'world', but that was impossible for me, I mean these suckers were insane!!!! I think I am a pretty tough cookie, but I found my 'Achilles Heal'....contractions.
I was soon given the epidural which made things go by so much better! As you can see by the picture I was a very happy camper :) !!!!!!!! By 11:30 a.m. my nurse wanted me to practice pushing before the doctor came back. I tried once and she told me "Whoa, you need to stop and wait for Dr. Pearson to come in." The doctor came in, I pushed 3 times, and bada bing, bada boom at 11:32 a.m. I was a mother!
If I were given a Dundie Award for the fasted child delivery then I would like to thank all the little people from the gymnastics world who made this award posible (if you don't watch the Office you should start). Anyway, Tanner measured 20 1/4 inches and weighted 7 pounds 5 ounces. The circumference of his head was 13 inches, OUCHY.... and his chest was 14 inches.
Having my very own child placed on me right after delivery was the most euphoriant experience I have ever had, I will never forget that feeling. Steven was so excited he followed the nurse over to the table where he was being checked out, and he was standing right in my view of Tanner. Every time I was able to get a good look at Tanner, Steven would move right in front of me again, it was kinda funny! Steven went to go meet our family at the nursery to see Tanner while I got wheeled up to my room where I would be staying in for the next couple days.
About an hour later me and Tanner were reunited and we both stared at each other, like whoa what just happened? When night rolled around I stared at him all night long. When I looked at the clock I realized it was 5:00 a.m., I had stayed awake all night flabbergasted at this beautiful baby that we made!
It was like that Areosmith song, "I don't wanna close my eyes, I don't want fall asleep cause I miss you baby..." Time just seemed to fly by but stand still at the same time, sigh... so amazing. We stayed at the hospital from Wednesday 7-8-09 (6:15 a.m.) till Friday 7-10-09 (11:00 a.m.). You would think that it was a long time but the clock just does not seem to exist when you have a baby, well for now anyway.
Post Delivery
I am now at home trying to recover and it has been 6 days and I have been pretty immobile since I got home. I guess the medicine wore off after I left the hospital and now I am really feeling it!!!! The only thing I have been able to do is feed him and love him. Steven and my mom have been changing him and picking him up when needed. Getting up to take a shower and using the restroom is a whole other blog, man it's ruff. There are MANY things that women don't talk about that I wish I would have been ready for, but maybe ignorance is bliss right?
Our kitties are really good to Tanner! At first they were like, "What the heck is this little creature?" But then later on when he cries they will come over to check out to see what is wrong. They are his little protecters.
I am very excited for our family! I finally feel like our house is a home! Every room in our place is filled with Tanner, if it is not a poopie diaper, then its a swing or a bouncer or a crib, or a swaddling blanket.... what a blessing!
He obviously has not used his nursery yet because walking to his room in my condition, not cool. But, soon enough and for right now we are using his room for our guests who stay with us! I think it is pretty darn cute! Thank you Babies R Us.
Tanner had his first doctor's appointment on Monday, July 13, 2009 with Doctor Boxtine. Doctor said he is beautiful!! Tanner was weighed and came in at 6 pounds 12 ounces! Strange how babies loose weight after they are born! You would think it would be the other way around!
I woke up one morning to find both my men sleeping the same way. Sorry for the boob shot, I did not want to wake him up!!! He is sooooo ity bity!!! I wish I could keep him this small, but we all have to grow up! I feel like he was pulled out of our dreams, it almost feels like I was not pregnant to begin with.
I am pretty proud of how my body has held up for the past year! I ordered a 'Belly Bandit' the other day to help with the last little bit of baby flab on my belly. So other then the hobbling to the bathroom and back, and not being able to laugh, sneeze or cough, I feel like I look pretty good for just having a baby a week ago! If you don't think so then just don't say anything okay, you'll burst my bubble!
I swear I am not sucking it in I just can't stand for very long, I look like I have a stick up my butt.
