Is This Really Happening?
So back in January remember how Steven went to Minnesota to do a week long project for Polairs? That project turned into two, and these two projects are the 'bread and butter' of Polairs (thats all that I am allowed to say)... its like how the Accord and Civic is to Honda, their 'bread and butter.' So Steven gets a call, while he is at work with BMW, from his boss at Polaris saying, "Congratulations, we have picked both of your designs to go into production."
When Steven got off the phone he text me telling me to good news... I was at home UNPACKING and get this text about his vehicles being chosen and I ask him, "SO.... what does this mean?" Steven tells me, "I guess we are going to be moving, they need me there to direct the designs." My eyes got big, put my head down, took a deep breath and started putting things BACK into the box that I was working so hard to unpack.
Since that day I have been on the phone "trying to plan" on moving but it's exhausting because we are not 100% sure whats going to happen with BMW. His contract is up with them at the end of April and they will have him sign another contract with more pay, so it really boils down to who will pay me more!
Anyway, I have spent many hours and countless phones calls to ALLLLL the surrounding areas of Medina, Minnesota. We have good friends out there that are sooooo helpful in guiding us where we should go and where we should stay out of. Our friends Leah and Randy found us a place in Maple Plain that sounded pretty good, it meets all of our requirements, but its hard to know if it is 'the place' since we can't be there to look at it. Let me just tell you how helpful they have been. Leah takes her video camera and drives around to show me the area, takes pictures of the place and really scopes out the neighbors! :) Our other good friend Laura Hall went to look at a place for us too, it was a HUGE help to see what we are going to get in our price range. Laura also send me a spread sheet set up to help me compare apartment searches, helping me rate apartments that I like with it's pros and cons, it's been super helpful.
Using that sheet we have narrowed our search down to this one that Leah found, so she made an appointment to go back today and go through the apartment with a fine tooth comb, so to speak.
So right now I am twiddling my thumbs waiting to hear back from her, here in the next hour or so...
Like I said, we have to be 100% certain we are moving because we have to put in our 30 day notice here so we can get out of this place with out any penalties. Steven can end BMW by the end of April and if we look at the calendar it's the end of March!!! Thats 30 days away!!!!!!!
-Me: "You need to get a hold of Greg and set up a Skype meeting so you can be FACE TO FACE while you negotiate...we need to put in our notice letter asap."
-Steven: "Greg is out of town." :(
-In my head: We need this ball to get on a roll, its all about setting up our dominos... Okay, so his boss is out of town, but for how long?? I guess I will just have to put everything on hold for next week or so. While we try to figure out our next plan of attack.
-Steven: "... Out of town in California! He got a hold of me today and wants to do lunch tomorrow!!!"
-Me: WHAAATTTT?? AAAAAHHHHHH!!!
-In my head: What-the-WHAT? Holy moly! He is really going to do his negotiating face to face!!! I am so nervous!!! AHHHHH!! I don't know how this is all lining up so nicely, do you? Well I do have an inkling that Heavenly Father had a little something to do with this, plus our hard work.
Let's see what else is up his little sleeve! To be continued...

Your Hired!
Steven left for Minnesota last Wednesday morning... His plane left at 6 a.m. so we had to wake up too early to catch his flight. This is the first time in 7 years that we have been apart for this long, time and distance wise.
It was weird not going with him... but I knew he is going to kick some butt. Ever since he left my stomach has been hurting... fear of the unknown I guess. We are in limbo! AHHH! Shut my brain off so I can rest! We are so blessed that Steven is so talented, so I guess it's not fear of him not getting a job, it's just where?? At this point he has 4 companies that are interested in him.
-RTT (Pasadena)
-Polairs (Minnesota)
-BMW (Thousand Oaks)
-ICON (Los Angeles)
So Steven got to MN safe and sound and went to work right away. It is really nice for him to just focus on work and not have to worry about us bugging him.
MN has been really cold for him. When we lived there last year we had heated underground parking, this time he dosen't, so he is getting a good taste of life in the snow and ice.
Anyway... (*leaning forward*) so... enough of the jib jab... (not sure if I am allowed to say yet).... buuut....yesterday while Steven was working he got a phone call from BMW. They said............., "Congratulations Steven you got the job!... We think you would be a great fit for our company!! We would like you to start next Wednesday" Steven tried to acted like it was not a big deal because because really who is BMW anyway, right? HAHA!! He was in the studio with all the other employees at Polaris during the call so he had to act like it was just a random phone call. Steven told them he will be on a plane on Wednesday so Thursday will have to do. I can only imagine him sitting there after his phone call knowing something so AMAZING that no one else knows. HAHA! He did say he was really antsy. So all of his hard work has paid off! A job soon after graduation is a dream! I feel so blessed!! We will keep you posted! Our next adventure, finding a home! SO EXCITED!!

Life Is Getting Crazy
Last week Steven had a job interview with RTT in Pasadena. They really liked him and let him know that they are interviewing a bunch of people through out the month of January. We think this would be a great job, get those student loans worked on, and save up some cash so he can get to his dream job. Yata, yata... As we wait for any word from RTT, in the mean time Steven's doing freelance work and also helping Polaris on a project from home for then next couple months. It's nice to know that we will be having an income for a little bit... then after that?... Then what? Who knows!
This last week Steven got busy with life and his project with Polaris was not the best he could hammer out for them. They called Steven and pretty much asked, "Whats the deal man??" Steven has been trying to pump out some good stuff, but it's just not working, too many distractions... Tanner, me, Tanner, and me. We have a hard time leaving him alone...
Then today he get's a phone call from BMW who are in Thousand Oaks area and asked if he was available to come in for an interview for this upcoming Tuesday!!! WHAHOO! That is so amazing to me! So through this all I'm thinking, "Well maybe Steven is not doin' so hot with the Polaris project because he is meant to work for BMW... I don't know..."
Then Steven get's yet another call an hour or so later from Polairs.
Polairs: "It seems like your not focusing."
Steven: "Yeah, I feel like I'm at a disadvantage working on my own and not being inspired by everyone in the office."
Polairs:"Well, let's fly you out to the studio for a week and see how it goes? We will pay for your flight, hotel, and car rental."
Steven: "That would be wonderful! Thanks, I would really appreciate that!"
Polairs: "Okay, talk with your wife and make sure that works out for you. See you next Wednesday."
Say What???? Crazy hu???? And it's so nice that they put me in the picture, after all I could say no and squash his dreams forever... BUT... I won't, aren't I so nice...lol.
So Steven has an interview next Tuesday and then flies out to Polairs on Wednesday to work for them for a week on this project. How fun is that?? So that's our crazy life right now!

Art Center Alumni
What a crazy last couple weeks. Enough said, period.
But, here we are, still alive and recuperating well. :) If you have missed our families fun adventure you can read up here starting with December 9th post.
Steven's project got started with this little sketch...
These are all the pieces that where printed out on SLA. These where the pieces that were wet sanded with a 600 grit paper, done until our fingers where bleeding or when the surface was silky smooth, or whichever came first. ;)
Sanding is the most important part of the process because if the surface is not smooth the paint will go on funny and in which case will look like crap. We could not afford for it to look like crap since Polaris paid $4,500 out of their pocket.
These pieces where done wet sanding and ready for primer and paint on December 9, 2010. Brandon, Steven's brother, and I started sanding on December 7! Those where the longest 2 days of our life's.
Here are all the parts primered and ready for paint!
Steven painting. This picture was taken around 3:30a.m. on Saturday, December 11.
This is Steven rehearsal with the Transportation Department on Sunday....
After Sunday the pieces dried and more work was done, more parts where painted, last minute decisions where made. Before we knew it the clock had made 5 revolutions and our time was up. Tuesday was his big day!! This is what we completed in 8 days, without stop. Pictures really don't do justice.
This is the frame of the car from the inside...
This is the guitar I snuck into the studio, and mounted it on the wall while there was presentations going on in the same room.
Here is his whole board. Those prints where beautifully mounted and perfectly placed. The two huge projects on the left wall are print-outs that are full scale.
Steven waiting to be called in for his big presentation to"big guys" on Tuesday.
Now let's fast forward to Saturday, December 18th....
Steven got this email...
What great news!! I am so glad it's getting a well deserved photo shoot. 45 minutes is a really long time on an object...
It was so surreal driving under the bridge with Steven and reading this banner. Finally he is DONE!
Being there with Steven for the last couple weeks had really opened my eyes to the kind of work he does. Even though I was there I don't even think I got the full picture at how grueling this school is, I got only a little taste.
On graduation day our families got together to PARRRTAY!!! Benihana was too much fun! It was really entertaining.
David and Katrina!!!! We love them! Was so fun to have them with us because they know how to party! ;)
Papa Doug and Tanner. So mesmerized by the awesome cook!
Jared Jones and his sis...Party animals over here!!
Tawny and Scott! They practiced this pose for weeks. I think they NAILED IT! Perfect 10! :)
Grammy and Pops!! Where would we be without them?
Cj and Hillary! What a lovely couple!! Tanner's cute cuzzzz... Landon. He takes such cute pictures.
Watch out, Brandon might attack, if not for Jessica this picture would not have been taken. ;)
Giving Steven a round of applause! I love how proud his face is!
Chocolate musse cake... can never go wrong with Costco.
The party animals.
Okay, so I took a gazillion pictures of Tanner and Landon playing together and this was the ONLY one that was somewhat decent. They move WAY too fast.
Waiting for the ceremony to start! Our family took up almost two rows!
This is the guy to know in Steven's line of work, Stewart Reed. Stewart has always loved Steve's work, even from the beginning.
After graduation everyone came see all the hard work...
We would like to thank all of our family and friends who have helped us and supported us in the last 4 years of Steven's education! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now only time will tell where we'll be! After the holidays we should have an idea... So exciting!!!
